Building on our cultural sector portfolio, Studio Weave is leading a diverse team of specialist consultants on the £4.48 million deep reuse project which is funded by the Level Up Fund and Waltham Forest Council.

Our proposals open up the building, both practically and metaphorically — making Vestry House more accessible to the widest possible audience. The project will add creative workspaces and a café and event space, increase the museum’s capacity to expand displays and improve the buildings performance in terms of sustainability and access.

The concept of “deep reuse” informs the design - we repurpose materials we have found in the collection and in the buildings, both their narrative and practical value, in rebuilding this important museum.

Studio Weave’s role is part of a continuum, looking backwards as well as looking forwards. So the new structural elements are demountable, helping future generations to reuse them. Wherever the building allows, we have peeled back historic layers, revealing the history, and engaging in a conversation across generations.
