Studio Weave were commissioned to develop an exhibition design for the Architecture Museum in Munich: showcasing the architecture under King Ludwig II of Bavaria from 1864 - 1886. Entitled “Palaces & Factories: The Architecture Under King Ludwig II” the exhibition ran from 26th September 2018 to 13th January 2019. The exhibition focused not just on the world-famous royal palaces and the spectacular theater projects which Ludwig II personally commissioned, but also on the public and private architectural developments of his time.

Our exhibition design was developed around three key principles which resonate with the ouvre on display: definition of a series of chamber spaces; distinct differentiation by typology; and rhythmic commonality between spaces. By using a range of materials throughout – stone, timber, plaster, paint, fabric, card – the exhibition mimics the diverse construction methods of the projects exhibited, held together within a coherent spatial structure.
