Studio Weave and Architecture00 were appointed to develop a strategy which celebrated existing strengths in the borough, and set out a roadmap to improving long-term opportunities for its current and future residents. In order to involve the boroughs own experts – its own communities - we delivered a co-creation engagement programme that supported the local economy through procurement of paid placements to local college graduates and students to research and undertake surveys about the cultural offer and opportunities across the breadth of the borough. We also worked closely with a number of key stakeholders – including community groups, council departments, and institutional supporters – to identify a range of Hounslow’s existing cultural assets, and capacities for activities and events of different scales and types.

To support Hounslow’s bid for London Borough of Culture 2021, we drafted ‘A Cultural Vision’ which illustrated a perspective of both what Hounslow has to offer, and how to strengthen cultural partnerships to create an exciting programme of activities that would celebrate the cultural identity of Hounslow’s diverse borough. Our strategy was built upon: dozens of council and stakeholder interviews; hundreds of public surveys; three public engagement events and two stakeholder network events – all of which presented a lasting record of the cultural life of Hounslow.
